Free Octopus Crochet Pattern

Isn’t he a little cutie πŸ™‚ and guess what? It’s my own pattern!!! XD This time instead of giving you guys a link and some tips…I’m giving you a pattern! Isn’t this exciting?! (or is it just me ;))Β  So here we go πŸ™‚ :

Any yarn you like
Any crochet hook you like
(the size of the hook and yarn will determine how big your octopus will be)

sc=single crochet

start with 6 sc in magic loop (video instructions)
Round 1: inc around (12)
Round 2: 1 sc, inc (18)
Round 3: inc, 2 sc (24)
Round 4: 3 sc, inc (30)
Round 5: inc, 4 sc (36)
Round 6-9: sc around (36)
Round 10: dec, 4 sc (30)
Round 11: 3 sc, dec (24)
Round 12: dec, 2 sc (18)
Round 13: dec, 14 sc, dec (16)

Now you’re done with the head πŸ™‚

Tentacles: Don’t tie off yet. Now chain 16 (or however long you want the tentacles to be) Now two sc from the hook begin to double crochet. Double crochet in each stitch until you get back to the head. Skip one sc on the head and sc to attach the second side of the tentacle. Then repeat the first step.

When you finish all eight tentacles you can add the eyes and stuff the octopus. After you finish stuffing it you will notice that there is a large hole at the bottom of the head where you stuffed it. To close this hole you will need to crochet a patch and sew it on.

sc 6 in magic ring.
Round 1: inc around (12)
Round 2: 1 sc, inc (18)
If the patch is still too small:
Round 3: inc, 2 sc (24)
Round 4: 3 sc, inc (30)

Now sew on the patch and hid all the yarn ends and you’re done πŸ˜€

See he’s a cutie right πŸ™‚ Now what to name him? πŸ™‚

This is the first pattern I’ve ever written so if you think there’s an error or something doesn’t make sense, just let me know and I’ll do my best to fix it as fast as possible πŸ˜€

I hope you enjoy my cutie of an octopus :3 now go build your octopi army (mwahahaha ;))

Catch Up Time!

I’ve been fairly busy (and lazy hehe) the past couple weeks. Currently I’m I probably should be practicing a speech….and doing math homework, but I think I’ll procrastinate a bit more πŸ™‚ So I guess I’ll let you guys know what I’ve been busy with.

As I’ve already posted I started a new line of jewelry in my store. I’ve been a bit obsessed with making viking knit jewelry πŸ™‚ Sadly I don’t have any example up in my store at the moment. I sold one and sent it to its new owner today. The others I had to take down. The end-caps that I used on them to hide the ugly ends pissed me off. They weren’t the kind I wanted anyway. Their pretty, but when they bend so easily. I don’t want to sell crappy quality stuff so I’ll scrap gold colored bracelets for now. Until I find good gold end-caps that is. Surprisingly I can’t find them at Micheals 😦 I can’t believe you would disappoint me this way Micheals πŸ˜₯

Easter was last weekend and I had four days off. So I spend the weekend at the beach. Let me tell it was amazing! I actually walked around in a tank top! At seaside!! It’s too bad I wasn’t expecting it, my tank top wasn’t exactly my most attractive. I probably should just get rid of it.

Now on to school. I had a couple tests last week so that took up time. I think I did pretty bad on my Microeconomics test 😦 The funny thing is I aced the math quiz that I didn’t study for but feel terrible about the econ test that I did study for. Funny how things work out πŸ˜›

Anyway I hope I didn’t bore anyone πŸ™‚ I just don’t know what else to write about. Any ideas? Any topic whatsoever? Hmmm, maybe I’ll cover the book(s) I’m reading next.

Oh, When I Think of Monte Cristo

To be honest I never do think of Monte Cristo. I actually had to google it to find out that it’s off the coast of Italy πŸ™‚ Good thing that I’m not thinking about the island or the book (The Count of Monte Cristo). I am thinking about the sandwich.Β  This one to be exact:20130315-203737.jpg

Looks great, huh? It’s simple to make, too πŸ™‚

Any type of cheese you want (I used Swiss and Munster), white bread, sandwich meat, mayonnaise, 1/4 cup milk, and 3 eggs. Jam is optional, but preferable.

Step 1: Build your sandwich!

In other words you’re building a double decker sandwich. Spread mayonnaise on the three slices of bread. Place your cheese on the bread, then a couple slices of sandwich meat. It’s up to you how much. Stack the bread to form your sandwich.

Step 2: Cook it!

You can cut off the crust if you want, but you don’t really have too. Make sure to smoosh the bread to make the sandwich thinner. Next wisk together the eggs and the milk. This mixture is enough for quite a few sandwiches. Now get your pan ready because next you pan fry the sandwiches. I put a butter and corn oil mixture in the pan. After it has heated up dip your sandwich into the egg/milk mixture. Coat it evenly. Now place on the pan and cook both sides until it is golden on both sides.

Step 3: Eat it!

Here’s the fun part. It’s also fairly straight forward (I’d hope so anyway πŸ˜‰ ) I suggest dipping your sandwich into jam or something sweet like that. That’s the way you’re supposed to eat it anyway πŸ™‚

I like these sandwiches, even though I really don’t like cheese so that saying something πŸ™‚

Do any of you have an interesting, simple recipe that you enjoy? I’d love to hear about it πŸ™‚

Doubts About Selling On Etsy

I’ve been wanting to expand my Etsy shop. Only I have a problem. Every time I want to put a new listing up with my polymer clay stuff or my vinyl wall decals, I get worried. I start wondering if my stuff is good enough. What if it breaks? Or my customer doesn’t like the quality? Or what if it just won’t sell? I’m having a hard time with my resin pendants as is. Everyone loves them but no one want to buy them. I don’t know what to do. Should I put up my other crafts anyway and hope for the best? When do I know if somethings good enough to sell to others? I thought that I was proud of what I can do, but know I’m just questioning myself. My family keeps asking me if I have sold anything yet. I’ve sold one pendant and it’s been 7 months, and I sold it to a classmate. Should I even keep trying? Advice would be welcome right now. Can anyone help? Please?

What Have I Been Up To?

Well not writing blog posts obviously πŸ˜› But I do have a decent excuse. I’ve been very busy. Mostly doing school stuff (or worrying about school stuff). I haven’t had much time or motivation to do anything very interesting. I doubt that anyone wants to hear about the homework I’ve been doing or not doing as the case might be (I know it’s bad, but so little motivation!).
This weekend everything changed. I finally had a weekend with no essays to write and only my math homework to procrastinate on :). I didn’t do much crafting but I did make my first custom order for a client on Etsy and I did play around with polymer clay and silicone molds.
I won’t here about my clients opinion about the pendant I made until tomorrow but I can say that I like it. It went more smoothly than most of my resin stuff to be honest. My client wanted a glitter pendant based on the Disney logo colors. I think I accomplished that with the glitter I had on hand.

I just love saying the word client. I feel so professional :).
With the polymer clay I made little roses that I’m going to use as decoration in some other resin pendants.
I also used the clay to play around with coloring the clay with eyeshadow. I used cheap $0.99 eyeshadow I bought at Walgreen’s and never use. It worked decently I guess. I used it on not yet baked clay. All my colors looked basically the same but that is the reason I never use the eyeshadow so I was expecting that. The biggest problem with using eyeshadow instead of chalk pastels is that it rubs off, not completely but enough to leave your fingers glittery. By the way I just brushed on the eyeshadow with a brush that I had.
I bought some mold putty a few months ago. It’s the putty that comes in two parts and when you mix them together and push an object into it you can make a mold that you can supposedly pour resin into and use it for many other things. I actually tested it this weekend.

Amazing Mold Putty mold

The molds worked great. Using resin on the other hand did not. It had a lot of bubbles that I just couldn’t seem to get rid of. Using polymer clay in the molds worked much better. With polymer clay you just push pieces in then you bake the clay like normal. It’s faster and less trouble I think. The pieces also came out not very clear, almost whitishΒ  matte. It doesn’t look terrible, I just don’t think that’s what I really want.

I also made another pendant this weekend. I really like it.

I used the roses I made earlier. I think that next time I won’t use translucent clay. The edges are a bit too blurry for my liking.

Now all I have to do is decide if I should put up that pendant for sale or not πŸ™‚ Check out my Etsy Store to see if I decided to put it up πŸ˜‰

My Fishy Friend

I haven’t been able to start any new projects recently. Between college and friends. I haven’t had much free time. I did manage to find time to visit the new Portland Aquarium with my best friend. It was awesome πŸ˜€ We got to see many different sea animals and even some rainforest frogs. The highlight of the trip was petting the sharks. Yup we got to pet sharks! They were small, baby ones but still πŸ™‚ They also had manta rays you could pet. It was awesome and I took some nice pictures with my phone. I’m actually impressed with how well my IPhone’s camera did.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite photos.

The Beginning

I have never been interested in writing. Yet here I am starting a blog. Most people will say that I have a normal, boring life. Despite this I want to have a blog. I mostly want to let others know about some of the tricks I have learned doing various crafts. I am a beginner at everything, but I do know basic things many fail to mention. I also hope that this blog will help me bring some more adventure into my life. I have many goals but I could use some motivation at this point. Whatever happens I hope I help you out in some way.

I am a college student trying to get a degree in accounting. Boring I know, but I did warn you :). I am still living with my parents since it is so much cheaper. I am jobless at the moment and broke so visiting my etsy siteΒ would be very helpful. I am single and not really looking. I just want to finish college in less than 4 years and do whatever crafts interest me at the moment. I have a Russian/Ukrainian background and live in America all the while hoping to live somewhere in Europe. We’ll see where I end up. I hope it will be an adventure πŸ™‚

That’s enough for now. Eventually I will get started showing the world what I am up to. πŸ˜€
