squid and octopus crochet

I had fun taking photo’s of this guy πŸ˜‰ I think my friends liked these little guys (anyway I hope so :D) If you want to make your own octopus you can find the pattern here (Link) It’s another ravelry pattern. It can be a bit hard to follow since there is no indication of how many st you should have at the end of a round. It is possible to figure it out since it is a simple pattern. Just try it πŸ™‚ If you guys have too many issues with it let me know and I’ll help you out πŸ™‚ I guess I’ll leave you guys with a few more pictures of Mr. Octopus and his friend πŸ™‚

And don’t forget, my Kickstarter is still going and I NEED help! Please check it out πŸ™‚ (link) There’s only 11 days left!

Free Octopus Crochet Pattern

20131008-170241.jpg

Isn’t he a little cutie πŸ™‚ and guess what? It’s my own pattern!!! XD This time instead of giving you guys a link and some tips…I’m giving you a pattern! Isn’t this exciting?! (or is it just me ;))Β  So here we go πŸ™‚ :

Materials:

Any yarn you like
Any crochet hook you like
(the size of the hook and yarn will determine how big your octopus will be)

Abbreviations:

sc=single crochet
inc=increase
dec=decrease

Instructions:

Head:

start with 6 sc in magic loop (video instructions)
Round 1: inc around (12)
Round 2: 1 sc, inc (18)
Round 3: inc, 2 sc (24)
Round 4: 3 sc, inc (30)
Round 5: inc, 4 sc (36)
Round 6-9: sc around (36)
Round 10: dec, 4 sc (30)
Round 11: 3 sc, dec (24)
Round 12: dec, 2 sc (18)
Round 13: dec, 14 sc, dec (16)

Now you’re done with the head πŸ™‚

Tentacles: Don’t tie off yet. Now chain 16 (or however long you want the tentacles to be) Now two sc from the hook begin to double crochet. Double crochet in each stitch until you get back to the head. Skip one sc on the head and sc to attach the second side of the tentacle. Then repeat the first step.

When you finish all eight tentacles you can add the eyes and stuff the octopus. After you finish stuffing it you will notice that there is a large hole at the bottom of the head where you stuffed it. To close this hole you will need to crochet a patch and sew it on.

Patch:

sc 6 in magic ring.
Round 1: inc around (12)
Round 2: 1 sc, inc (18)
If the patch is still too small:
Round 3: inc, 2 sc (24)
Round 4: 3 sc, inc (30)

Now sew on the patch and hid all the yarn ends and you’re done πŸ˜€

See he’s a cutie right πŸ™‚ Now what to name him? πŸ™‚

This is the first pattern I’ve ever written so if you think there’s an error or something doesn’t make sense, just let me know and I’ll do my best to fix it as fast as possible πŸ˜€

I hope you enjoy my cutie of an octopus :3 now go build your octopi army (mwahahaha ;))

Free Baby Related Crochet Patterns

So I finally completed all the projects I was planning on for my pregnant cousin πŸ™‚ I think I’m done anyway…hehe πŸ™‚

The photo’s in this post are my versions of the projects. I also included links to the actual patterns and any comments I may have about the process.

The first and easiest crochet pattern is for this lovely squid πŸ™‚

Cute isn’t he πŸ™‚ He’s fairly easy to make. The only difficult part is you have to estimate how long to make each section of his head. The pattern doesn’t include how many rows to crochet but it’s a quick crochet so if it looks funky then you can just try again πŸ™‚

The next one up is an adorable teddy bear πŸ™‚

Surprisingly this teddy bear wasn’t that hard to make. The only difficult part is there are many pieces to this bear. So it’s a bit time consuming to make then sew together. Actually crocheting is fairly easy.

The last toy is the giraffe that I mentioned in my last post πŸ™‚

Free Giraffe Crochet Pattern

This one took all of my patience πŸ˜› This giraffe is bigger than any of the toys I’ve made…and there’s a reason I stick to small stuff. I get bored πŸ˜› But I finished it πŸ™‚ The only difficult thing about this giraffe is keeping track of how many stitches you have around. I miss counted at some point or something so the tummy is a bit off. It still looks good πŸ™‚ This pattern is on revelry and normally you need an account to download the pattern, but I didn’t sign in when I found this pattern so it seems that you can get away without an account πŸ™‚

Now the last pattern isn’t a toy. It’s an adorable baby aviator hat πŸ™‚

Free baby aviator hat pattern

I love this hat! It’s so cute! And really fast to make πŸ˜‰ The only thing I have to say about this hat is that some of the directions are a bit confusing. It’s made with all double crochet. Because of that you have to start the rows in a special way. I wouldn’t listen to what the pattern says. When I followed it the hat had a weird shape to it. When you start a row chain 2 then double crochet in the next stitch, not the same one like it says. Other than that it’s an easy pattern πŸ™‚

These were all fun to make πŸ™‚ I’ll probably end up making more stuff πŸ™‚ I’ll make sure to post more as I find them. Let me know if you guys end up making any of these πŸ™‚ And whether I should make more posts like this πŸ™‚ I like input (and comments) πŸ˜‰
